* 900 old, 235 new cases pending with tribunal due to absence of chairman

LAHORE: The Environmental Tribunal of Punjab has become completely dysfunctional, as no progress has been made on 1,135 cases pending with the tribunal due to the absence of its chairman for the past 10 months, Daily Times learnt on Sunday.
The contract of the previous chairman, Khawaja Muhammad Afzal, expired on July 1, 2011. Before his retirement, the tribunal was dealing with 900 environment cases, while 235 new cases were constituted after his retirement.
